Post consumer plastic waste has a high level of contamination, especially from printing inks and adhesives that accumulate in the extruder and reduce its output over time. Thanks to Omya Calcium Carbonate, significantly less of these substances remain in the extruder. A typical market for such re-granulates are injection molded parts such as pallets and corrugated pipes, which get better dimensional stability and more stiffness thanks to the Calcium Carbonate.

Omya Calcium Carbonate has excellent dispersibility and generally allows long filter life in extrusion. Since well-dispersed Calcium Carbonate does not agglomerate during melting, it can be easily regranulated together with the polymer.


A large market for recycled polyethylene is blown film for refuse bag production where the Calcium Carbonate has the functionality to improve the dispersion of the polymer components and to improve important film properties such as tear resistance and dart drop. Often extra Calcium Carbonate is added in the recycling process in order to achieve the desired concentration for the final application.
